Another good card to make would be for those people who insist on doing the "ass pivot" when the person closer to the window is trying to get out of the bus or train. It's not too hard for the person by the aisle to actually, oh, stand up to give more clearance for an exit instead of just turning in their seat and still being in the way.

This is my number one pet peeve!! I hate these people. How hard is it to get off your ass while I try to get off. I also take a swipe at them with my bag as i'm departing. Childish, I know, but maybe they'll think twice before they do the ass-pivot move. bastards!

Considering that my lap is usually full to overflowing with sewing or correspndence on any given commute (some peopel read or stare vacantly in to space, I use my two-hour-each-way commute to do thigns I don't have time for elsewhere) I consider an "ass pivot" with an appology as the best I can do at the time.

Somehow I don't think a "Jack" campaign would be a ripping success on the other side of the pond.

I think it would be wrong to guess that "Jack" is that cute little Green Elf LE/Jac who proudly pranced into Chicago with his cute Red Elf Friend Ho/Dar to tout the re-alignment of the Lake/Englewood Jacson Park Lines and the Howard/Dan Ryan Lines into today's Red and Green Lines.

More likely, the stick figure cartoons, slightly reminiscent of children's cartoons, are an edgy reference to Don't do Jack S#%& without actually spelling it out. Quite fiesty for CTA if true. Or it could be a subtle reference to the popular game, You don't know Jack. Or maybe the consultant ad firm desginger had a fight with his/her S.O. Jack the week before the campaign was due L.O.L.

Or, they just needed a name and a common one, and Jack lost. At the time I think Jack was the name of one of the Senior Vice Presidents who was the last person to do this kind of thing so it could have been an inside joke.

Or, it could refer to a popular movie at the time, as in don't be a Jackass, without actually offending anyone.

As to the twist thing, it is more polite to stand. We all should do our best to be polite. But that works on both sides. If I'm getting up from inside and the twister's lap is big or full, I don't mind. Especially if they look like they've had a day from hell.

The thing about public transportation is that it takes tolerance to work. The more tolerance we have, the better it works. I like to smile at people, not in a wierd leering way, just in an open polite, have a nice day way, especially as I am leaving the train they are staying on. They know they are safe that way and I almost always get a smile back, it affects the mood of the car as it leaves the station.

We can all do a bit of that. Smile. Ease the way. Have our farecard or change ready. Turn the sound lower. Pick up that bottle rolling back and forth that could trip a 90 yo and put her in the hospital for the rest of her life and drop it in the trash on the way out. Its our public transit. It really is. We pay for it every day.

So why not enjoy it. The cards are funny. But I'd like to see some thank you cards too.

you should make one referring to the people who stand near the very crowded door way and won't move when you're trying to get off the train. they're usually suburban folks going to cubs games. sometimes i mumble, "the courteous thing to do would be to step off the train while we get off."

i love the personal stereo one. the best thing is when said personal stereo listener is also dancing.
